Cassandra Johnson is a retired teacher living in Orange County, CA. An ardent runner and native Californian, she has begun a project to allow her and her husband to travel in the Golden State, write about her participation in races and support a worthwhile cause for children. Her goal is to run a race in each of California’s 58 counties, and donate to Kershaw’s Challenge for each county posted.
As a runner, Cassandra has particularly enjoyed ultrarunning. She and her husband have spent many weekends over the years traveling to a particular venue, getting up at dawn for the start, and flying back home for work on Monday morning, exhausted, but happy to have joined the quirkiness and camaraderie of the ultra distance runners. Trail runs in the Marin Headlands, along the American River, and in the High Sierras are most memorable.
In retirement from elementary teaching, she has devoted time to writing about her running experiences. And when April rolls around, Cassandra and her husband, Bill, plan many Dodger games to attend. They have been fans since the franchise came to the L. A. Coliseum from New York. Inspired by the Dodger pitcher, Clayton Kershaw and his wife’s organization, Kershaw’s Challenge, Cassandra and her husband decided to meet the challenge themselves and try to help some of the children in the world who are desperately in need.
So, combining a little traveling, a little running, a little writing, and a little donating will enhance the Johnson’s lives, as well as, the recipients of Kershaw’s Challenge.
